How to Apply

Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, MSc, or Period of Further Learning
If you wish to apply for any of the postgraduate options you can either contact the CPDA Administrator (Programmer and Student Liaison) to send you an application pack or print the relevant forms off below. It is however important that you ensure you meet the entry requirements before completing the forms. If you have any questions then please contact the CPDA Administrator (Programme and Student Liaison).

Applicants hoping to be sponsored by their organisation must speak to their training manager and obtain approval, before contacting the CPDA Office. There is no deadline for applications to be submitted to the CPDA Office by. Applications can be received at any time during the year.

The Application pack consists of:

When completing the module booking form please refer to the section on awards. All applicants will be enrolled at the University of the West of England. The authority for invoicing fees form must be stamped and signed by your organisation. If self sponsored this must be accompanied by a Bankers reference or another proof of funds. The application form must contain the contact name, postal address and email address for both your industrial and your academic referee. We will contact them for references on your behalf. The above forms must be completed and returned to the CPDA Office with the following documentation:

    • 4 passport size photographs;
    • Detailed Curriculum Vitae;
    • Copies of all degree educational certificates (or equivalent at HNC/D) with transcripts if necessary

Please find useful information below regarding Fees and Modules.

CPDA Short Course Applicants
Any of our modules can be attended as a stand-alone course. There is no formal enrolment and no formal qualifications are required. However attendees are expected to have some experience of postgraduate work and review the module synopsis prior to the module to assess suitability. Please complete the short course application form and return it to the CPDA Administrator (Programme and Student Liaison) if you wish to make a booking. For all modules there is the opportunity for short course attendees to complete the Post Module Assignment and whilst this is not compulsory it is recommended as passing the assignment allows you to gain academic credit. It is also a means of demonstrating that you have understood and can apply the skills taught in the module. A certificate with your module mark would be issued upon completion.

Please note that short course delegates who later decide to enroll on the programme and therefore wish to submit an assignment for a module attended previously, are required to attend either part of or all of the next running of that module prior to completing the assignment. This is the case only if more than 6 months have passed since the original deadline. Delegates should note that they will be charged the full module fee for a second attendance on a module.

Chartered Engineer Recognition

Many applicants are interested in achieving professional recognition in their careers. Studying for these awards can provide the remaining academic qualifications required – along with sufficient work experience – to achieve this recognition.

The CPDA Office has Royal Aeronautical Society accreditation for the CPDA Masters Qualification.

The CPDA Masters qualification will provide the further learning required by accredited BEng Honours holders seeking CEng registration.

Any CPDA applicant or existing student who wishes to apply for Chartered Engineering recognition should:
i. Identify the postgraduate CPDA award which they intend to do;
ii. Identify their expected module programme;
iii. Provide a breakdown of their existing qualifications.

These can then be sent to the relevant institution for review at the Further Learning Panels. The panels will either approve the choice made, or give reasons for any conditions imposed. This way, the applicant is aware early in the CPDA programme of what is required in their particular circumstances to complete their qualifications for the C.Eng.

This information should be sent to:

Royal Aeronautical Society Institution of Mechanical Engineers

Accreditation Officer
Email: richard.jordan@raes.org.uk

Please also send a copy of this information to the CPDA Administrator (Programme and Student Liaison), for our records.

The IET is pleased to note that these programmes may provide suitable Further Learning for Bachelors graduates seeking Chartered Engineer status. Those successfully completing the programme are encouraged to apply for Chartered Engineer status with the IET once they can demonstrate achievement of the UK-SPEC competences. Applications will be holistically assessed for evidence of competence: evidence considered shall include the candidate's career history and education and training records, which shall include documentary evidence of the MSc (e.g. transcript), plus any records of experiential learning.
