Computing Facilities
University
of Bristol
Information Services is responsible for the computer (and library) facilities
at the University of Bristol.
Registration
Once you have been sent a letter offering you a place on the programme,
also enclosed will be the Postgraduate Registration Form and the University
of Bristol Student ID/Library Card form, which you will be required
to complete and return with one copy of the Offer of Admissions form
to the CPDA Office. Upon receipt of these you will be sent a welcome
letter with your UoB Library card which will provide you with information
about how you can access your username and password, as well as your

IT Services (ITS) are responsible for the computer facilities at UWE.
Registration
You will be automatically registered for computer facilities, you will
be sent details of this registration.

Library Facilities
University of
Bristol
Information Services is responsible
for the library facilities at the University of Bristol.
Library Card
Your University id card is also your library card. This entitles you
to borrow from the University of Bristol’s libraries. At the bottom
of your card there is a ten-figure number, this is your Library User
Number. You must carry your card with you whilst you are on campus,
you will always need it to borrow material from the libraries.
Libraries
There are 13 libraries in the University of Bristol. The Queen’s
Building Library (engineering, mathematics and computer science) and
the Arts and Social Sciences Library (management and business) are the
two that may be of the most relevance to you. Details of the libraries’
locations, their opening hours, the number of books you can borrow,

Library Catalogue
The library catalogue can be viewed by following the ‘UoB library
catalogue’ link at the following URL: http://metalib.bris.ac.uk/V?RN=735714018
The library catalogue will
indicate if we have a copy of the book or print journal in stock, how
many copies we have and if the item is available to lend or whether
it is on loan. If the item is on loan then you can reserve it. To reserve
an item you will need your Library User Number (mentioned above) and
your Library PIN. You can obtain your PIN by emailing us on eng-maths-librarians@bristol.ac.uk.
When your reserved books are returned and are ready for you to collect
you will get an email to your UoB account informing you of the fact.
Electronic Resources
Access to electronic journals is via the ‘Find journal’
link at the following URL:

Here you can search our electronic journal collection by journal title.
From the ‘Find database’ at the above URL you can select
a database to search the contents of journals. You might like to use:
The Science Citation Index, ZETOC or Compendex. On obtaining results
by searching any of these databases you’ll be able to access the
full-text, if available, by clicking on the Get It buttons.
Some databases require an
Athens (AuTHENtication System) username and password to access them.
You should receive your Athens username and password when you register
with the University, if this is not the case then please contact us

Both electronic journals
and the databases to search their contents will be demonstrated at your
Project Seminar. If you would like to see them before that time please

The University

Library Card
