Project Supervision
All delegates will be allocated both an Industrial and
Academic Supervisor.
Academic Supervisor
Once an initial proposal has been received by the the CPDA Administrator
(R&M), it is sent to the Field Group Leaders, who in turn identify
suitable Academic
Supervisors. Once the appropriate academic has agreed to supervise
the project, the delegate is informed. The awarding University is
determined by where the Supervisor is based. The Supervisor will
then work with the delegate to support him / her during the creation,
development and submission of the project.
In some cases, personal interest in a given subject may sometimes
result in an Academic Supervisor from a department / university not
normally involved with that subject matter. This is possible, provided
the supervisor is approved by the awarding university and a second
marker - from the awarding university - can be found who can confirm
the validity of the subject matter.
Please note that the Academic
Supervisor will meet all the academic requirements, but may insist
on a given style. It is recommended that
the student
meets the Supervisor’s criteria, such as when he / she would
like to review the first and final drafts.
Industrial Supervisor
The delegate must identify an internal Supervisor, or ‘mentor’,
from their company to support their project. This individual is expected
to guide the delegate within company boundaries and ensures the project
meets company requirements. He / she should also ensure that the delegate
is able to obtain the necessary company resources for
the project
as well as disseminating the results obtained to the
relevant areas within the company.
A number of delegates are
self-sponsored and do not have company mentors. In these cases, the
delegate is encouraged to find a sufficiently qualified
work colleague or associate to be his/her Supervisor. Help on the type
of individual required for the role can be given by the CPDA Office.
For further guidance on Supervisors please refer to Q.IP.7:
Supervisor Allocation.
The following two documents are for Supervisors themselves but may
be useful to delegates in understanding the role of their Supervisor
and the support they should expect from them:
